Helping You Naturally

Pain Relief Without Pills

Enjoy this new book about natural and alternative pain relief — beyond the prescription pad. It gives you the bottom line on which alternative medical therapies work the best, from mindfulness to natural herbs like medical cannabis and CBD. These alternative methods have helped many patients reduce or eliminate their need for prescription pills.

Alternative Medicine

Alternative Medicine refers to therapies outside of mainstream Western medicine — including acupuncture, herbal medicine, yoga, mindfulness, meditation, yoga and Ayurveda, the healing branch of yogic science.

According to Web MD, about 40% of adults in the United States say they use some form of alternative medicine.

What is Alternative Medicine?

Alternative Medicine refers to therapies outside of mainstream Western medicine — including acupuncture, herbal medicine, yoga, mindfulness, meditation, yoga and Ayurveda, the healing branch of yogic science.

Alternative means “instead of,” while complementary medicine means in addition to — in addition to methods used in Western therapies.

What herbs and methods are used in Alternative Medicine?

Natural dietary supplements for optimal health include Triphala for GI tract health, ashwagandha for its ginseng-like effect and CBD (cannabidiol) oil, for reducing pain and inflammation. Patients with anxiety and with GI disorders like IBS especially benefit from CBD. Yogic practices like conscious breathing (pranayama) and guided meditations promote deep rest and relaxation.

How can I learn to meditate?

All meditation starts with mindfulness, giving your full attention to the present moment. Get started with my books and with my online course, Mindfulness Made Easy.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is the healing branch of yogic science, the holistic medicine from India.

Veda means “knowledge”  and Ayur-Veda translates as “the knowledge of life and longevity.”

About Me

Born near Athens, Georgia, Dr. Graves attended the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia before moving to Minneapolis for internship and residency in Emergency Medicine. His accolades include medical director, EMS, associate professor of Emergency Medicine, UNC-Chapel Hill, and election to Fellow status (FACEP) in the American College of Emergency Physicians.

An avid world traveler, Dr. G has hiked the Himalayas, done missionary work in Honduras, staffed the clinic on St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands) and sailed the high seas as a Holland America Line physician.

In 2001, Dr. Graves left the ER behind to pursue a new interests: Yoga and Ayurveda, the healing branch of yogic science, studying for two years at the Wisdom Fire School of Yoga in Berkeley, California and completing a year-long Yoga of Sound internship with master sound yogi, Russill Paul (Anirud Jaidev) of Chennai, author of The Yoga of Sound. Years in the ER taught him that many illnesses, especially those that are anxiety and stress-related, can be best treated with Ayurveda, lifestyle changes and Yoga.

In 2010, he began teaching Mantra Yoga, presenting Yoga of Sound workshops at yoga studios and wellness centers along the East Coast.

In 2014, he published The Mystical Chakra Mantras: How to Balance Your Own Chakras with Mantra Yoga, the world’s first interactive eBook on mantra yoga, with links to YouTube where readers may experience the mantras.

In 2015, he began to write alternative medical blogs, taught Mantra Meditation at the McLean Meditation Institute, and published Mantra Meditation: An Alternative Treatment for Anxiety and Depression. In 2018 came Mindfulness Made Easy, an online course and a new book written in response to the opioid crisis in America: Alternative Pain Relief: A Pill-Free Tool Kit.

Dr. Graves currently lives in the mountains of North Carolina where he writes alternative medical blogs and teaches the Yoga of Sound,  the yoga of music and mantra.
